A frameless shower screen is simply a shower screen without a frame. They are built from tougher and thicker glass and are joined by various metal securing devices to create a design that is frameless.
Yes, in Australia frameless shower screens are required to be compliant with Australian standards that ensure safety. They need to be manufactured using toughened Grade A safety glass that doesn’t cause a safety/health risk if damaged and it needs to be at least 10mm thick.
Frameless shower screens are just like with any type of shower screen and when installed correctly they are extremely unlikely to ‘leak’ through the sealed edges of the shower screen. As with any other type of shower screen sometimes small amounts of water can pass through the small gaps between hinges or seams.
